ABSTRACT COMPETITION GUIDELINES
The competition is open to all pathology residents and fellows in approved Texas training programs and should be members in good standing of the TSP.
- Medical students and non-Texas, current residents/fellows are eligible to submit, however, they are not eligible for podium presentation nor awards.
- If selected for a poster presentation, a poster printing fee of $50 will be required. You will be notified by the TSP office when poster submission and payment are required.
An abstract of NO MORE THAN 350 WORDS should be submitted through the following links:
- Abstracts are accepted ONLY by website submission. Those received by fax, routine mail, or email will not be considered.
- Your abstract file submission should NOT contain the names of the author, co-authors, or institution.
- Although not required, it is STRONGLY recommended that abstracts be broken down into four clearly defined sections: Background; Materials and Methods; Results; and Discussions.
Abstracts are submitted with the understanding that they represent work performed primarily by the presenter during their residency or fellowship and were not previously presented at a national meeting. This does not preclude subsequent presentation or publication in a referenced journal.
Residents and fellows can ONLY be listed as the first author on a SINGLE ABSTRACT SUBMISSION. Multiple abstracts may NOT be submitted by the same first author nor can the same first author submit a case report AND investigative report abstract. This does not preclude them from being included as co-authors in other abstracts.
One submission per individual. Topics may cover anatomic, clinical, or experimental pathology. These include, but are not limited to:
- Report of one or more cases of diagnostic or conceptual interest.
- An in-depth study of a case using new or a variety of methods.
- Investigative basic research in any branch of pathology.
- Differential diagnostic problems encountered by practicing pathologists.
- Improvements or evaluation of new stains, methodology, or instruments.
INVESTIGATIVE ABSTRACTS SUBMITTED WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR PLATFORM/PODIUM PRESENTATIONS
- Six investigative abstracts will be selected and will require on-site presenting on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at the Annual Meeting. Authors will be notified by Monday, December 16, 2024.
- In the event you are selected, you must complete the disclosure form required for podium presentations. The disclosure form will be provided to you upon your acceptance to present.
- Each podium presentation is limited to 10-minutes, with an additional 2-minute Q&A as needed, on Sunday, February 9, 2025. Podium presenters will not be expected to prepare posters.
- Authors whose papers are not selected for podium presentations may be invited to present their abstracts on posters to be displayed at the annual meeting. (Posters should be saved in PDF format and sized 24" (tall) x 34" (wide)).
- Platform/Podium Presentation Winners: A panel of judges will select the top three podium presentations based on their scientific merit, clarity of presentation, originality, potential importance, interpretation and conclusion, use of audiovisual material, and interaction with audience during the Q&A period. The winners will be awarded a certificate as well as $325, $225, and $150 for the first, second, and third places respectively. Winners will be announced at the end of the conference on Sunday, February 9, 2025.
- Abstract Poster Winners: A panel of judges will select the three best report posters and investigational posters based on their scientific merit, clarity of presentation, originality, potential importance, interpretation and conclusion, and figures and tables. Case report posters will be awarded the following (1st, 2nd, 3rd place - $100, $75, $50); Investigational posters will be awarded the following (1st, 2nd, 3rd place - $200, $150, $100).
