Placebos are an agent given to enhance a person’s expectation of health. Commonly known as ‘sugar pills,’ they’re made up, not of sugar, but of any number of other substances that have little true effect on someone’s body. However, in studying placebo impact, there was a 30% reduction in pain in the control arm of patients receiving placebos in diabetic neuropathy trials. There is definitely something to ‘mind over matter,’ and if you truly believe something is good for you, it’s much more likely your health will improve.
